TCPIPprotokollaperheen is the Finnish term for the TCP/IP protocol suite. This suite forms the foundational communication protocol used by the internet and most other computer networks. It is a set of rules that govern how data is transmitted and received between devices. The name TCP/IP comes from two of its most important protocols: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP).

IP is responsible for addressing and routing packets of data so they can travel across networks and reach their destination. TCP, on the other hand, provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of a stream of data between applications running on hosts communicating over an IP network. TCP ensures that all data arrives correctly and in the right order, while IP handles getting the data from one place to another.

The TCP/IP protocol suite is structured in layers, with each layer performing a specific function. This layered approach makes the protocol flexible and allows for different implementations at each layer. Other key protocols within the suite include UDP (User Datagram Protocol) for faster, less reliable data transfer, HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) for web browsing, and DNS (Domain Name System) for translating domain names into IP addresses. The widespread adoption of TCP/IP has enabled the global connectivity and vast information exchange that defines the modern internet.
