Tárcsafék

Tárcsafék is the Hungarian term for disc brake. Disc brakes are a type of brake that uses a caliper to squeeze pads against a disc (rotor) attached to a rotating shaft. This friction slows down or stops the rotation of the shaft. They are a common braking system found in vehicles, bicycles, and some industrial machinery.

The basic components of a tárcsafék system include the rotor, caliper, brake pads, and the hydraulic or mechanical mechanism that actuates the caliper. When the brake is applied, brake fluid or a cable causes the caliper pistons to press the brake pads against the spinning rotor. The resulting friction generates heat, which dissipates into the air, slowing the wheel.

Tárcsafék systems are generally considered more effective than drum brakes, especially in wet conditions, due to their superior heat dissipation and resistance to fading. They also offer more consistent braking performance. Maintenance typically involves inspecting and replacing brake pads and rotors as they wear down. The performance and lifespan of tárcsafék can be influenced by factors such as the material of the rotor and pads, the size of the components, and the operating environment.
