Süütemagnetist

Süütemagnetist is an Estonian term that translates to "ignition magnet" or "magneto ignition" in English. It refers to a type of self-contained electrical generator that produces a high-voltage pulse to ignite the fuel-air mixture in an internal combustion engine. Unlike battery-powered ignition systems that rely on an external power source, a magneto generates its own electricity through electromagnetic induction.

The core components of a magneto typically include a rotating permanent magnet, stationary coils (primary and secondary windings), and a breaker mechanism or a similar electronic switching system. As the magnet rotates within the coils, it induces an electrical current. The primary coil receives this current, and when the breaker points open at the precise moment, the magnetic field collapses, inducing a much higher voltage in the secondary coil. This high-voltage pulse is then sent to the spark plug, initiating combustion.

Magneto ignition systems are known for their robustness and reliability, especially in demanding environments where battery systems might fail. They are commonly found in small engines such as those used in lawnmowers, chainsaws, motorcycles, and some older automobiles. Their simplicity and self-sufficiency make them a durable choice for applications where consistent ignition is critical. The timing of the spark is directly linked to the engine's rotation, ensuring synchronization.
