Süsinikterase

Süsinikterase, often referred to as carbon steel, is a metal alloy composed primarily of iron and carbon. The amount of carbon present in the steel significantly influences its properties, such as hardness and strength. Generally, carbon steel contains between 0.02% and 2.1% carbon by weight. Other alloying elements are typically present in minimal amounts, though manganese, silicon, and copper may be added to modify specific characteristics.

The classification of carbon steel is based on its carbon content. Low-carbon steel, also known as mild steel, has a carbon content of less than 0.3%. It is characterized by its ductility, weldability, and relative ease of machining. Medium-carbon steel typically contains between 0.3% and 0.6% carbon and offers a balance of strength and ductility, often heat-treated to achieve higher hardness. High-carbon steel, with over 0.6% carbon, is very hard and strong but less ductile and more brittle. It is commonly used for tools and springs.
