In literature, Estonian Symbolist writers explored themes of mysticism, the subconscious, and the exotic. They often employed metaphors, allusions, and a lyrical style to evoke moods and create layers of meaning. Figures associated with Symbolism in Estonian literature include poets like Ernst Enno and Gustav Suits, although their work often blended Symbolist tendencies with other influences.

In visual arts, Estonian Symbolists explored dreamlike landscapes, mythical figures, and introspective portraits. They were interested in the expressive potential of color and line to convey inner states.
