Südamesüsteem, also known as the cardiovascular system or circulatory system, is a complex network responsible for the transportation of blood, nutrients, gases, and waste products throughout the body. It plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis, regulating temperature, and supporting immune functions.

The system primarily consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart, a muscular organ located in the chest cavity, functions as a pump to circulate blood through two main pathways: the pulmonary and systemic circuits. The pulmonary circuit carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and returns oxygen-rich blood to the heart. The systemic circuit distributes oxygenated blood to the body's tissues and collects deoxygenated blood for return to the lungs.

Blood vessels are categorized into arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry blood away from the heart under high pressure, while veins return blood to the heart. Capillaries are tiny vessels where the exchange of gases, nutrients, and waste occurs between blood and tissues.

The blood itself is composed of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells facilitate oxygen transport, white blood cells are involved in immune defense, and platelets are essential for blood clotting.
