Sénégal

Sénégal is a country located on the westernmost tip of the African continent. It is bordered by Mauritania to the northeast, Mali to the east, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south, and The Gambia to the southeast. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the west. The capital and largest city is Dakar. The country's geography is characterized by a relatively flat terrain, with savannas and Sahelian plains. The Senegal River forms much of its northern border.

The population of Sénégal is diverse, with several ethnic groups including the Wolof, Fula, Serer, Mandinka, and Soninke. The official language is French, though many local languages are widely spoken. The majority of the population is Muslim, with a small Christian minority.

Sénégal's history includes periods of various empires, colonial rule by France, and eventual independence in 1960. The country has a relatively stable democratic tradition. Its economy relies heavily on agriculture, fishing, and tourism. Key agricultural products include peanuts, millet, and cotton. The country has made efforts to develop its infrastructure and diversify its economy. Sénégal is a member of several international organizations, including the African Union and the United Nations.
