Sääntelytyypit refers to different approaches or categories of regulation used by governments and authorities to influence behavior and achieve societal goals. These types can be distinguished by their mechanisms, objectives, and the degree of intervention involved.

One common categorization is between direct and indirect regulation. Direct regulation involves specific rules and prohibitions, often enforced through licensing, permits, or outright bans. Economic regulation aims to control prices, competition, and market entry in specific industries, like utilities. Social regulation addresses issues related to health, safety, and consumer protection, such as food safety standards or workplace safety rules.
