Sähkölämmityksen

Sähkölämmitys refers to electric heating systems used for maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures, particularly common in residential and commercial buildings in Finland. It encompasses a variety of technologies that convert electrical energy into thermal energy. The most prevalent forms of sähkölämmitys include direct electric heaters, such as electric radiators and underfloor heating systems, and indirect electric heating, which often involves electric boilers heating water for central heating systems.

Direct electric heating systems are known for their relatively low installation costs and quick response times. Electric radiators, for example, can be installed individually in rooms, allowing for zone-specific temperature control. Underfloor heating, either electric cables or mats, provides a uniform and comfortable heat distribution. Heat pumps, which utilize electricity to extract heat from the outside air, ground, or water, are also increasingly considered a form of sähkölämmitys due to their reliance on electricity as the primary energy source, though they offer higher efficiency than purely resistive heating.

While offering convenience and flexibility, the operational cost of sähkölämmitys can be higher compared to other heating methods, especially if electricity prices are elevated. The efficiency of resistive electric heating is 100%, meaning all consumed electricity is converted to heat. However, the cost-effectiveness depends heavily on the price of electricity and the thermal insulation of the building. Modern advancements in insulation, energy-efficient appliances, and smart thermostats aim to mitigate the energy consumption associated with sähkölämmitys.
