Sárgarézötvözetek, more commonly known as brass alloys, are a group of copper-based metals where zinc is the primary alloying element. The proportion of zinc significantly influences the properties of the brass. Generally, brass alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and ease of fabrication. They exhibit a wide range of colors, from a pale yellow to a deep gold, depending on the zinc content.

Common brass alloys include cartridge brass, with about 30% zinc, which is highly ductile and suitable for ammunition casings. Red brass, containing 15% zinc, has a reddish hue and good corrosion resistance, often used in plumbing and musical instruments. Naval brass, typically with 39% zinc and a small amount of tin, offers superior resistance to corrosion in marine environments, making it ideal for ship fittings and propellers. Muntz metal, a yellow brass with 40% zinc, is strong and corrosion-resistant, used in architectural applications and marine hardware.

The applications of brass alloys are diverse due to their versatile properties. They are widely used in plumbing fittings, valves, and pipe connectors due to their corrosion resistance and machinability. In the electrical industry, brass is used for connectors, terminals, and switch parts because of its conductivity. Decorative items, musical instruments like trumpets and trombones, and ammunition casings also commonly utilize brass alloys. The ability to be cast, forged, and machined makes brass a highly adaptable material across various manufacturing sectors.
