Szupportív is a term encountered mainly in Hungarian-language medical and social-science texts. It functions as an adjective describing measures, therapies, or services that provide support rather than cure, often used to refer to supportive or adjunctive care. The term is a loanword from English "supportive" and is commonly written with the Hungarian spelling "szupportív," with the digraph "sz" representing the voiceless s sound. Standard Hungarian equivalents include "támogató," "kiegészítő," or "támogató jellegű."

In practice, "szupportív ellátás" or "szupportív terápia" covers symptom relief, pain control, nutritional support, psychological and social support, and other services aimed at sustaining quality of life in patients with serious illness. Outside medicine, it can appear in education or workplace accommodations referring to supportive measures for individuals with disabilities or special needs.

Usage and standardization: Because "szupportív" is not part of the officially codified vocabulary in Hungarian, its usage varies. Some authors prefer native terms; others keep the loanword for emphasis on its English-origin nuance. The term is more common in informal writing, bilingual texts, or contexts influenced by international practice.
