Szonátaépítés

Szonátaépítés is a Hungarian term that translates to "sonata form" or "sonata structure." It refers to a specific compositional form commonly used in classical music, particularly from the Classical period onwards. The term is not typically used as a standalone concept but rather describes the underlying structural blueprint of a musical piece, most often the first movement of a sonata, symphony, string quartet, or concerto.

The basic sonata form typically comprises three main sections: exposition, development, and recapitulation. The exposition introduces the principal thematic material, often presenting contrasting themes in different keys. The development section explores and manipulates these themes through various harmonic and melodic transformations. Finally, the recapitulation restates the thematic material from the exposition, usually in the tonic key, bringing the movement to a sense of resolution. A coda may also be included at the end to further conclude the piece.
