Szlovénia

Szlovénia, also known as Slovenia, is a country in southern Central Europe. It covers about 20,273 square kilometers and has a population of around 2.1 million. Its capital and largest city is Ljubljana. It borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, and Croatia to the southeast, with a short coastline on the Adriatic Sea.

Szlovénia is a parliamentary republic. The President acts as head of state with largely ceremonial duties; the Prime Minister heads the government. The unicameral National Assembly (Državni zbor) has 90 members elected for four-year terms. Slovenia is a member of the European Union, the Eurozone, NATO and the Schengen Area (Schengen since 2007; euro adopted in 2007).

Geography features the Alps, the Karst region, and a short Adriatic coastline. The Julian Alps and Mount Triglav are central features, while karst caves such as Postojna and Škocjan attract visitors. The Soča and Sava rivers traverse the country, supporting diverse ecosystems and outdoor recreation. The landscape supports tourism, forestry and agriculture.

Economy is diversified and high-income, with services, manufacturing and tourism as main sectors. Key industries include automotive parts, electronics, pharmaceuticals and food processing. The country places emphasis on innovation, environmental sustainability and regional integration within Europe.

Slovene is the official language; Italian and Hungarian are recognized minority languages in specific areas. The country has a rich cultural tradition in literature, music and architecture. UNESCO World Heritage Sites include the Škocjan Caves and the Idrija mercury mine, recognized for their natural and historical significance.
