Szinkrongenerátorok, also known as synchronous generators, are a type of AC electrical generator that produce electricity at a constant frequency determined by the rotor speed and the number of poles. In these generators, the rotor rotates at a synchronous speed, which is directly proportional to the frequency of the generated electricity and inversely proportional to the number of poles. This synchronous operation is crucial for maintaining a stable and predictable power supply in electrical grids.

The fundamental principle of operation for a szinkrongenerátor involves the interaction of magnetic fields. A rotating magnetic field in the rotor induces a voltage in the stationary stator windings. The excitation current supplied to the rotor windings creates the magnetic field. The speed of the rotor is maintained by a prime mover, such as a turbine powered by steam, water, or wind. The frequency of the generated AC power is precisely controlled by the rotational speed of the rotor.
