Szívdobogást

Szívdobogást, meaning heartbeat or palpitation in Hungarian, refers to the sensation of feeling one's own heart beating. This can be a normal physiological experience, often noticeable during periods of rest or relaxation. It can also be a symptom of various underlying conditions, both physical and psychological.

Normally, the heart beats rhythmically, pumping blood throughout the body. Most people are not consciously aware of this process. However, certain factors can increase the awareness of one's heartbeat. These include physical exertion, stress, anxiety, or excitement, all of which can lead to a temporarily increased heart rate. In these instances, the magnified sensation of the heartbeat is typically temporary and resolves as the provoking factor subsides.

When a heartbeat is perceived as irregular, unusually strong, or occurring at an abnormal rate, it is often referred to as a palpitation. Palpitations can manifest as a fluttering, pounding, or skipping sensation in the chest. They can be caused by a wide range of factors, including caffeine or alcohol consumption, dehydration, certain medications, hormonal changes (such as during pregnancy or menopause), and electrolyte imbalances. More serious causes can include arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms), heart disease, anemia, or thyroid problems. If palpitations are frequent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting, medical evaluation is recommended to rule out any significant health issues.
