Syvyysterävyyttä, often translated as depth of field, is a fundamental concept in photography and optics. It refers to the range of distances within a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image. The extent of the depth of field is influenced by several factors. Conversely, a larger aperture (smaller f-number) produces a shallower depth of field, isolating the subject and blurring the background.

Furthermore, the distance between the camera and the subject influences the depth of field. As the subject is closer to the camera, the depth of field becomes shallower.
