Systemsignale

Systemsignale are signals that convey information about the state, behavior, or operation of a system within engineering and information science. They are exchanged between components in a model or in real hardware and can be described mathematically as functions of time or discrete steps.

They can be continuous-time or discrete-time, and analog or digital. In modeling, system signals include input signals that drive the system, internal signals such as state or intermediate variables, output signals that reflect responses, and feedback signals used for control. Disturbance or perturbation signals represent external influences, while measurement signals capture observed quantities from sensors and instrumentation.

In control theory, system signals are analyzed within frameworks such as transfer functions, state-space models, or block diagrams. In signal processing, they are the objects of transformations such as filtering, sampling, or compression. Signals can be deterministic or stochastic, periodic or aperiodic, and may be affected by noise or other uncertainties.

Applications of system signals include system design and simulation, monitoring and diagnostics, fault detection and isolation, control optimization, and reliability assessment. The precise interpretation of what constitutes a system signal depends on the modeling approach and domain, but the common theme is that these signals carry information essential to describing and influencing the behavior of a system.
