It describes the contribution of units such as morphemes, allomorphs, or phoneme sequences when they join a host word in a given language. Calculation: Determine the base word and the word with the unit attached, using the language’s standard syllabification method. Syllablecontributes equals the surface syllable count of the latter minus the syllable count of the base form. If elision or vowel reduction occurs, the contribution may be smaller than expected or even zero; negative contributions arise only under specific phonological contexts.
