Sydänlihassoluvaurion

Sydänlihassoluvaurio, also known as myocardial injury, refers to damage to the cells of the heart muscle. This damage can occur due to a variety of reasons, with the most common being a lack of oxygen supply to the heart muscle, a condition known as ischemia. Ischemia can result from a blockage in the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart, often due to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). When the heart muscle cells are deprived of oxygen, they begin to die, leading to impaired heart function.

Other causes of sydänlihassoluvaurio include direct trauma to the chest, certain infections that inflame the heart muscle (myocarditis), severe inflammation, toxic exposures, and some genetic conditions. The extent of the damage can range from minor and reversible to severe and permanent, depending on the cause, duration, and magnitude of the insult.

Symptoms of sydänlihassoluvaurio can vary widely. Chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, fatigue, and irregular heart rhythms are common. However, in some cases, especially with milder injuries, symptoms may be absent or non-specific. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG) to assess electrical activity, and blood tests to measure cardiac biomarkers, such as troponin, which are released into the bloodstream when heart muscle cells are damaged. Treatment strategies depend on the underlying cause and may include medications to improve blood flow, reduce the heart's workload, or address inflammation, as well as lifestyle modifications and, in some instances, surgical interventions.
