Syömäpuikot

Syömäpuikot, commonly known as chopsticks in English, are a pair of slender sticks, traditionally made of wood, bamboo, or plastic, used as eating utensils in many East Asian countries. Their origins can be traced back to ancient China, where they were initially used for cooking and later adapted for eating.

The primary function of chopsticks is to grasp and lift food to the mouth. They are held with a specific grip, typically with one chopstick stationary and the other manipulated by the fingers to open and close the eating ends. This method allows for precise control in picking up small pieces of food, which is particularly useful for dishes often served in bite-sized portions.

Chinese chopsticks tend to be longer and thicker, often made of wood or bamboo, reflecting the communal style of dining.
