Sviatopolk is a given name of East Slavic origin. It is composed of two elements: "sviaty" meaning "holy" or "sacred," and "polk" meaning "regiment" or "army." Therefore, the name can be interpreted as "holy regiment" or "sacred army." This name was historically prominent among Rurikid princes in Kievan Rus'.

The most famous bearer of the name was Sviatopolk I Vladimirovich, also known as Sviatopolk the Accursed. He was the Grand Prince of Kiev from 1015 until 1019. His reign was marked by a bloody struggle for the throne against his half-brothers Boris and Gleb, who were subsequently canonized as saints. Sviatopolk's claim to the throne was challenged by Yaroslav the Wise of Novgorod, who eventually defeated him at the Battle of the Alta River in 1019. Sviatopolk fled and his ultimate fate is uncertain, though he is believed to have died shortly thereafter.

Another notable figure was Sviatopolk II Izyaslavich, who reigned as Grand Prince of Kiev intermittently between 1093 and 1113. He was known for his military campaigns and his efforts to maintain the unity of the Ruthenian lands, though his reign was also characterized by internal strife and conflicts with nomadic peoples. The name Sviatopolk, while historically significant, is not commonly used as a given name in modern Slavic countries.
