Sveisepulver

Sveisepulver, often translated as welding flux, is a material used in certain welding processes, most notably in submerged arc welding and flux-cored arc welding. Its primary functions are to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination, stabilize the arc, and influence the metallurgical properties of the deposited weld metal.

The composition of welding flux varies depending on the specific welding application and the metals being joined. Common ingredients include silica, alumina, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, and various metallic alloys. These components melt and form a protective slag layer over the weld pool. This slag shields the molten metal from oxygen and nitrogen in the air, which can cause porosity and embrittlement in the weld.

In addition to its protective role, welding flux can also add alloying elements to the weld metal, thereby improving its mechanical strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Some fluxes are designed to deoxidize the weld pool by reacting with and removing dissolved oxygen. Others can influence the shape and penetration of the weld bead.

Welding flux can be applied in several ways. In submerged arc welding, it is typically in granular form and is deposited ahead of the welding arc, covering the arc and molten metal. In flux-cored arc welding, the flux is contained within a tubular electrode, releasing it as the electrode melts. The choice of flux is critical for achieving sound and high-quality welds.
