Deoxidize (or deoxidise) means to remove oxygen from a substance or to reduce the oxidation state of a chemical species. The term is used across chemistry, metallurgy, and industrial processing. The goal is to minimize reactive oxygen and prevent or limit the formation of oxides that can alter properties, reactivity, or stability of materials.

In metallurgy and materials science, deoxidation is a common step in refining molten metals, notably steel.
