Sveikatingumas

Sveikatingumas is a Lithuanian concept referring to the state or quality of being healthy and well. In public health discourse it denotes the holistic well-being of individuals and populations, extending beyond the absence of disease to include physical, mental, and social dimensions. The term derives from sveikas (healthy) with the suffix -ingumas that forms an abstract quality.

Because sveikatingumas is multidimensional, it is assessed with a set of indicators rather than a single metric. These include self-rated health, prevalence of chronic diseases, life expectancy and healthy life expectancy (HALE), measures of mental well-being and life satisfaction, as well as indicators of functioning and participation in society. Determinants include lifestyle behaviours, environmental conditions, education, income, social support, and access to health care.

Public policies aimed at improving sveikatingumas focus on health promotion and disease prevention, healthy environments, nutrition and physical activity, mental health services, and equitable access to care. The concept supports intersectoral approaches that address social determinants and the construction of health-supportive environments.

Usage varies; as a broad term it can be seen as inclusive but also open to interpretation and measurement challenges. It is commonly used in Lithuanian health discourse and policy analysis to discuss progress toward greater well-being rather than solely clinical indicators.
