Suurtükivankrite, a term of Estonian origin, translates to artillery carriages or gun limbers. These were essential components in the deployment and transportation of artillery pieces, particularly before the widespread adoption of self-propelled artillery and advanced towing systems. A suurtükivanker typically consisted of a wheeled frame designed to support the weight of a cannon, allowing it to be moved by draft animals or by hand. The limber, often an independent two-wheeled fore-carriage, could be attached to the gun carriage to form a single, more manageable unit for movement across various terrains.
