Susitarimai

Susitarimai, in Lithuanian usage, refer to agreements or arrangements between two or more parties that establish, modify, or terminate rights and duties. The term covers informal understandings as well as formal contracts and is used in both everyday language and legal contexts. In law, a susitarimas becomes binding when it meets the general requirements of contract formation: assent by the involved parties, legal capacity, a lawful purpose, and, where required, a specified form.

Types of susitarimai include civil or commercial agreements such as purchase contracts, service agreements, and leases. Kolektyviniai susitarimai are negotiated between employers and employee representatives and may regulate wages, benefits, and working conditions. Internationally, susitarimai can be tarptautiniai susitarimai or treaties between states or organizations; they are usually concluded in writing and must be ratified to take effect.

Formation and content: an offer is made, it is accepted, and the parties intend to create legal relations. The terms should be clear and definite; some agreements require specific formalities (for example, written form for certain transactions or consumer contracts).

Effects and enforcement: susitarimai create rights and obligations that are enforceable in courts or through other dispute-resolution mechanisms. Breach can lead to remedies such as damages, termination, or specific performance, depending on the law and the contract terms. Interpretation of the agreement follows rules of construction and the principle of good faith.
