Supraessential

Supraessential is a term used in philosophy and theology to describe something that exists beyond or is superior to essence. Essence refers to the fundamental nature or indispensable quality of something, that which makes it what it is. In contrast, supraessential refers to a reality or quality that transcends even this fundamental nature. It implies a level of being that is not limited by definition or conceptualization.

The concept of supraessential is often associated with divine attributes. For example, in some theological traditions, God is described as supraessential, meaning that God's being is so far beyond human comprehension and categorization that it cannot be fully grasped by understanding God's essence. This suggests that any attempt to define God's essence would inevitably be limiting.

The term can also be applied to certain mystical experiences or ultimate realities. In these contexts, supraessential points to an experience or state of being that surpasses ordinary understanding and the limitations of the empirical world. It signifies a qualitative leap in existence or awareness that cannot be adequately described by existing terms or concepts. The supraessential, therefore, is that which is more than itself, existing at a level of reality or being that is fundamentally different and higher than what can be defined or conceived.
