Suorituskykytestaus, often translated as performance testing, is a crucial aspect of software development and system administration. It involves evaluating how a system, application, or component performs under a specific workload. The primary goals are to identify bottlenecks, assess responsiveness, and ensure scalability and stability. Performance testing is not about finding bugs in the traditional sense, but rather about uncovering limitations in speed, stability, and resource utilization.

There are several types of performance testing, including load testing, stress testing, endurance testing, and spike testing. Load testing simulates expected user traffic to see how the system handles normal operating conditions. Stress testing pushes the system beyond its normal limits to determine its breaking point and how it recovers. Endurance testing, also known as soak testing, checks for performance degradation over extended periods. Spike testing examines the system's reaction to sudden, extreme increases in load.

Key metrics often monitored during performance testing include response time, throughput, latency, and resource utilization (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network bandwidth). By analyzing these metrics, developers and administrators can make informed decisions about system optimization, hardware upgrades, and architectural changes. Effective performance testing helps ensure a positive user experience, prevents costly outages, and optimizes resource allocation. It is an ongoing process, often integrated into the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline.
