Suoravaihtojärjestelmä, often abbreviated as SRV, refers to a type of electrical power transmission system that allows for the direct conversion of voltage levels without the need for intermediate AC stages. This contrasts with traditional high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems which typically involve converting AC to DC, transmitting it, and then converting it back to AC. SRV technology utilizes advanced semiconductor devices like thyristors or insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) to achieve this direct conversion.

The primary advantage of SRV systems lies in their potential for higher efficiency and reduced losses compared to conventional methods, especially for long-distance power transmission. By eliminating the AC-DC-AC conversion steps, the energy dissipated during these processes is minimized. Furthermore, SRV systems can offer greater flexibility in controlling power flow and can be particularly beneficial for interconnecting asynchronous AC grids.
