Suorakulmikkaat

Suorakulmikkaat are a type of snow erosion landform found in arctic and subarctic regions. They consist of elongated depressions, typically 100 to 1000 meters in length, created by the selective removal of snow by wind. This process creates a characteristic "groove" or "track" feature on the underlying surface.

Suorakulmikkaat are formed primarily by the action of winds in regions with heavy snowfall and low vegetation. The process begins when snow is blown over the surface, with stronger winds preferentially eroding the snow in certain areas. This creates a series of trenches that can be several meters deep and have flat or gently sloping floors. The surrounding land can rise up in areas, forming "berms" that are typically flat-topped.

Suorakulmikkaat are usually made out of soft and loose-textured materials such as fine-grained sands and gravels. The landforms often exist in other landscapes like lakeshores or beach forelands, where the wind is particularly strong. In addition, in places where the soil is scantly covered by vegetation, the landforms can also be found at higher speeds.

The formation of suorakulmikkaat is very short-lived and only a very short lifespan can be expected of these landforms. They are very fragile and appear naturally in short periods with heavy precipitation, extreme weather and unglaciated landscapes.
