Suolarasitushäiriö, also known as salt stress disorder, is a condition affecting plants when they are exposed to high concentrations of salt in their environment. This typically occurs in regions with saline soils or when irrigation water contains excessive salt levels. The presence of high salt concentrations disrupts the plant's ability to absorb water through osmosis, leading to dehydration even when water is present. Furthermore, excessive sodium and chloride ions can accumulate within plant tissues, becoming toxic and interfering with essential metabolic processes.

Symptoms of suolarasitushäiriö vary depending on the plant species and the severity of the salt stress. Common signs include stunted growth, wilting, leaf yellowing or necrosis (tissue death), and reduced flowering or fruiting. In severe cases, the plant may die.
