Suodatinmallien

Suodatinmäellä refers to a type of simple and utilitarian dwelling in the Arctic region, specifically in the Sami communities of Northern Norway, Finland, and Russia. The word "suodatinmäki" is Finnish for "net-dwelling hill", although it has also been described as a "snare-dwelling" or simply "dwellings on a hill".

These dwellings typically consist of a wooden or birch bark frame covered with animal hides, such as reindeer or sheep skin. The structure is usually small, with a rectangular or square shape, and is designed to be mobile and easily assembled. The net-dwelling is typically placed on a gentle slope or a low hill, often near a river or a wetland.

The suodatinmäki was traditionally used by the Sami people as a temporary dwelling or a shelter during hunting trips or other nomadic activities. It was also used as a seasonal dwelling for families with young children during the winter months. The dwelling's mobility and simplicity allowed the residents to easily relocate to areas with better resources or to escape harsh weather conditions.

The term "suodatinmällä" is not as well known outside of Sami communities in the Nordic region. However, it provides insight into the resourceful and traditional living methods of the indigenous Sami people, who have for centuries adapted to the harsh climate and natural surroundings of the Arctic region.
