Sundvõtted

Sundvõtted (literally "coercive techniques") is an Estonian term that denotes methods used to compel or pressure a person, most commonly in the context of interrogation, detention or enforcement actions. The scope of the term is broad and can include psychological pressure, intimidation, or other forms of force, but its exact meaning depends on legal and institutional context.

Legal status and human rights: In international law and in Estonia, many coercive practices are regulated or prohibited. The UN Convention Against Torture prohibits torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and many jurisdictions distinguish between lawful, non-coercive interrogation techniques and coercive methods that constitute torture or ill-treatment. National and international bodies emphasize that information obtained under coercion is unreliable and ethical concerns are central to enforcement practices.
