Sulgur

Sulgur is a coastal city and municipal seat in Veridia. Located on the sheltered estuary of the Sul River, it faces the Veridian Sea and functions as a regional commercial hub. The city has a population of around 42,000 and covers about 120 square kilometers.

Geography and climate: The waterfront district sits beside hills to the north and farmland to the south. The temperate maritime climate features mild winters, cool summers, and about 700 millimeters of precipitation annually.

History: Sulgur began as a trading post in the medieval period and grew through fishing, timber, and trade. It gained municipal rights in the 13th century and developed into a regional port during the early modern era, followed by modernization in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Economy: Today, Sulgur's economy centers on shipping, fishing, shipyards, and logistics, with additional activity in light manufacturing and local crafts. The harbor serves as a gateway for regional trade and tourism.

Culture and landmarks: Cultural life is anchored by the Market Square, the Harbor Museum, and the Sulgur Opera House. The annual Festival of the Sea attracts visitors from across the region. The local dialect Sulgari coexists with the official Veridian language.

Governance: Administratively, Sulgur is governed by a mayor and a 15-member city council. It is part of Veridia's provincial framework and maintains cooperative relations with neighboring towns and municipalities.
