Sulfosalters

Sulfosalters are a group of minerals that contain sulfur and one or more alkali or alkaline earth metals. The term "sulfosalter" is not a formal mineralogical classification but rather a descriptive term used to group minerals with similar chemical compositions. These minerals often exhibit vibrant colors and can be found in various geological environments, particularly those associated with volcanic activity and hydrothermal processes.

Common elements found in sulfosalters include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium, in addition to sulfur. Examples of minerals that could be broadly described as sulfosalters include thenardite (sodium sulfate), glaserite (potassium sodium sulfate), and polyhalite (hydrated potassium magnesium calcium sulfate chloride).
