Suihkusuuttimen

Suihkusuuttimen is the component of a shower system that shapes and directs water as it exits the shower head. In Finnish usage the term refers to the nozzle assembly responsible for generating the spray pattern, whether built into a shower head or used as a separate nozzle in hoses and outdoor showers.

The nozzle works by constraining water to flow through small openings, creating a spray. The size, number, and arrangement of these openings determine the pattern and feel of the water, and many designs include an aerator to mix air with water to reduce consumption and improve perceived pressure. Materials are typically plastic (such as ABS) or metal (brass or stainless steel), sometimes with a protective coating or chrome finish. Design variations can affect water pressure, flow, and tactile sensation, with options ranging from wide, rainfall-like sprays to more focused jets or mist.

Common types include fixed nozzles integrated into standard shower heads, adjustable or interchangeable nozzle inserts for different spray patterns, and handheld shower heads with replaceable nozzle tips. Inline or retrofit nozzles are also used in hoses and modular systems for targeted spray applications.

Maintenance is principally about preventing and removing mineral buildup, which can clog openings and degrade spray quality. Regular cleaning with mild vinegar solutions or dedicated cleaners, avoiding abrasive tools, and periodic replacement of worn nozzles help preserve performance and efficiency. Some nozzles are designed for easy removal and cleaning, while others favor sealed, low-maintenance constructions.
