As a suffix, it would attach to a root or stem and function to flag that the referent is the particular one known in discourse, rather than any generic or indefinite instance. In analyses of languages with rich affixation, suffixspecifically could co-occur with other grammatical markers such as number or case, and might interact with demonstratives or articles to refine precision of reference.

Examples in a hypothetical language X: libro-spec yields a form meaning “the specific book” (the one under discussion). Libros-spec would indicate “the specific books” in the plural. These forms illustrate how a dedicated suffix could encode referential identifiability within an inflectional system.
