Substratgitter

Substratgitter refers to a specific arrangement of atoms or molecules on the surface of a substrate material. This ordered pattern is crucial in various fields, including materials science, nanotechnology, and surface chemistry. The term "gitter" is German for "lattice" or "grid," highlighting the geometric, repeating nature of the arrangement.

When a new material, such as a thin film or deposited layer, is placed onto a substrate, the atoms of the new material will often try to align themselves with the underlying structure of the substrate. This phenomenon, known as epitaxy, leads to the formation of a substratgitter.
