Subsonicos

Subsonicos is the plural form of the term subsonic in several Romance languages, and is used in technical contexts to discuss phenomena and objects operating below the speed of sound, or at frequencies below human hearing. In English, the corresponding term is subsonics or subsonic when used as an adjective.

In physics and engineering, subsonic refers to flows or motions with speeds less than the speed of sound in the surrounding medium (Mach number less than 1). The subsonic regime is typically associated with relatively small compressibility effects and is contrasted with transonic and supersonic regimes. Many conventional aircraft cruise at subsonic speeds, and subsonic conditions inform design choices for aerodynamics, propulsion, and noise reduction.

In acoustics and music, subsonic or sub-bass describes very low frequencies that are often below 20 Hz. These frequencies are usually inaudible to most listeners but can be felt as vibrations. Subwoofers and bass-heavy sound systems are designed to reproduce subsonic content, and in film and music production, subsonic frequencies contribute to perceived warmth and impact.

Outside of aviation and acoustics, subsonicos may appear in general discussions of any process or device operating below sonic thresholds, including low-speed fluid transport or mechanical systems where compressibility and wave effects are minimal. The term is prevalent in Spanish and Portuguese technical literature, while in English the standard terms are subsonic or subsonics.
