Subantarktika

Subantarktika is a biogeographical region that encompasses the islands and waters south of the Antarctic Convergence and north of the Antarctic Circle. This region is characterized by cold, nutrient-rich waters influenced by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The landmasses within Subantarktika are primarily oceanic islands, many of which are volcanic in origin. These islands, though often small, host unique ecosystems adapted to harsh conditions.

The climate of Subantarktika is subpolar, with generally cool summers and cold winters. Precipitation is common, often in the form of rain or snow. Despite the challenging environment, Subantarktika supports a surprising diversity of life. The surrounding oceans are teeming with krill, fish, and squid, which form the base of the food web for larger marine animals.

Iconic wildlife found in Subantarktika includes various species of penguins, seals, and whales.
