SubIFDs
SubIFDs, or Sub-Image File Directories, are a lesser-known feature within the TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) specification. They are essentially nested IFDs within a main IFD. This hierarchical structure allows for more complex organization of image data within a single TIFF file. Think of the main IFD as the root directory, and SubIFDs as subfolders. Each SubIFD can contain its own set of tags, describing image data or metadata specific to that particular subgroup.
