Störschutzmaßnahmen, also known as interference suppression measures or EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) measures, are techniques and designs implemented to prevent or mitigate electromagnetic interference (EMI). EMI occurs when one electronic device or circuit disrupts the proper functioning of another through the emission or reception of electromagnetic energy. These measures are crucial for ensuring the reliable operation of electronic systems in a wide range of applications, from consumer electronics to industrial machinery and telecommunications.

The fundamental principle behind Störschutzmaßnahmen is to control the flow of unwanted electromagnetic energy. This can be achieved in several ways. Shielding involves enclosing electronic components or entire devices within a conductive material, such as metal, to block the passage of electromagnetic fields. This is effective for both preventing emissions from escaping and for protecting sensitive components from external interference.

Filtering is another common technique. Filters are designed to allow desired electrical signals to pass through while attenuating or blocking unwanted frequencies. Additionally, employing components with good intrinsic EMI characteristics and implementing proper decoupling techniques for power supplies are essential. The goal is to create electronic systems that are both immune to external interference and do not generate excessive interference themselves, thereby ensuring electromagnetic compatibility.
