Stumpjumper

Stumpjumper is a line of mountain bicycles produced by Specialized Bicycle Components. Introduced in 1981, the Stumpjumper was among the first purpose-built mountain bikes and became one of the best-known models in the sport. The original design featured a rigid frame optimized for off-road riding, helping to establish a template for versatile, all-around trail performance.

Over the years, the Stumpjumper family expanded to include both hardtail and full-suspension versions. The lineup incorporated alloy and later carbon frames, as well as advances in suspension technology. In the 1990s and 2000s, Specialized developed full-suspension variants and refined geometry to improve downhill control and climbing efficiency, while maintaining the model’s emphasis on balanced handling across varied terrain.

The Stumpjumper lineup has included multiple sub-models, such as Stumpjumper Comp, Stumpjumper Expert, and Stumpjumper Pro, with later generations adding the Stumpjumper EVO for more aggressive trail and enduro-focused performance. The Stumpjumper remains a flagship model for Specialized, positioned as an all-around trail bike suitable for a wide range of riders and conditions. It has been used in recreational riding, endurance events, and professional competition, contributing to the popularization of versatile, do-it-all trail bikes.
