Studietillatelse

A *studietillatelse* (literally "study permit" in Danish) is an official document issued by Danish authorities that grants foreign nationals the right to study at a recognized educational institution in Denmark. It is a key requirement for non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens wishing to pursue full-time education in the country, including at universities, technical colleges (*erhvervsakademier*), or other approved institutions.

The permit is typically tied to a specific program and institution, and its validity depends on the duration of the study. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover tuition, living expenses, and health insurance, as well as prove they have no criminal record and intend to return to their home country after completing their studies. Family members of the permit holder may also apply for a *familievisum* (family visa) to accompany them.

The application process involves submitting documents such as proof of admission, financial proof, a valid passport, and a completed application form. Processing times vary, and approval is not guaranteed. Once granted, the *studietillatelse* allows the holder to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week during term time) and full-time during breaks, provided they maintain their student status.

Denmark’s *Udlændinge- og Integrationsministeriet* (Ministry of Immigration and Integration) oversees the issuance of study permits. Holders must comply with Danish immigration laws, including reporting any changes in address or study status. Failure to do so may result in permit revocation. The permit does not automatically grant residency or work rights beyond those specified, and holders must apply for a residence card upon arrival in Denmark.
