Stubbly

Stubbly refers to a condition of having short, stiff, and often prickly hairs, typically on the face after shaving or as a natural growth pattern. This texture is a result of hair shafts that have been cut or have grown to a short length, often standing out against the skin.

The most common association with stubbly is male facial hair. After shaving, the regrowth of facial hair can quickly develop a stubbly feel. This stage of growth is sometimes referred to as "five o'clock shadow" if it becomes noticeable by late afternoon. The appearance and feel of stubble can vary depending on hair thickness, color, and growth rate.

Beyond facial hair, stubbly can also describe other short, coarse hairs on the body, such as on the legs or arms after a period without shaving or waxing. In some cases, stubbly may refer to the texture of certain fabrics or materials that have a rough, bristly surface, though this usage is less common. The perception of stubbly can range from being seen as unkempt to a deliberate aesthetic choice.
