Strukturellkulturell is a concept used in sociology and related disciplines to describe the intertwined relationship between social structure and culture. It refers to the way institutions, economic arrangements, and power relations shape cultural practices, while at the same time cultural beliefs, norms, and symbols influence the organization of social life. The term emphasizes that structure and culture do not operate in isolation but continuously affect one another.

The structural dimension includes formal and informal institutions such as the legal system, education, labor markets, political hierarchies, and class relations. The cultural dimension encompasses beliefs, values, meanings, language, rituals, and shared identities. Together they form a network of constraints and opportunities that guide behavior, socialization, and everyday practices.

In a structural-cultural dynamic, structural constraints can channel cultural expectations, while cultural shifts can alter institutions and policies. Examples include how legal frameworks shape gender roles and how feminist movements, in turn, press for changes in law and organizational culture. Other illustrations are the adoption of new technologies, urban planning affecting daily routines, and migration altering both social networks and cultural norms.

Research in this area often adopts cross-disciplinary methods, including comparative and longitudinal studies, ethnography, and qualitative-quantitative mixes. It seeks to understand how material arrangements and meaning systems co-evolve to produce social outcomes such as inequality, cohesion, or change, and to identify leverage points for policy and organizational reform.

Critics warn of potential oversimplification and determinism if either side is treated as sovereign. A careful structural-cultural analysis aims to capture context-dependence, feedback loops, and the non-linear nature of how structure and culture influence each other.
