Streamliners refer to a type of vehicle, most notably trains, that were designed with aerodynamics in mind. Their distinctive sleek, smooth, and often elongated shapes were not merely aesthetic but served a functional purpose: to reduce air resistance. This reduction in drag allowed for higher speeds and improved fuel efficiency compared to earlier, more boxy designs.

The first true streamliners emerged in the United States in the 1930s. Iconic examples include the Burlington Zephyr and the Union Pacific M-10000. Beyond trains, the streamlining principle was applied to other forms of transport, including automobiles and aircraft, though its impact was most pronounced and visually striking in the railway industry.
