Streamingteknik refers to the methods and technologies used to transmit and receive digital media, such as audio and video, over a network in real-time. This process allows users to consume content as it is being delivered, rather than waiting for an entire file to download. The core principle involves breaking down large media files into smaller packets that are sent sequentially across the internet.

The recipient device reassembles these packets as they arrive, playing them back almost instantaneously. This is achieved through various protocols, with the most common being Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) often used in conjunction with Real-time Transport Control Protocol (RTCP) for managing the quality of service. Another significant protocol is HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), developed by Apple, which breaks content into small HTTP-based files.

Key components of streamingteknik include content encoding, where raw media is compressed into a format suitable for transmission, and content delivery networks (CDNs). CDNs are distributed servers that cache content closer to end-users, reducing latency and improving playback performance. Buffering is another essential element, where a small portion of the content is temporarily stored on the user's device to ensure smooth playback even if there are minor network interruptions.
