StreamField

StreamField is a flexible content field used in the Wagtail content management system. It enables editors to assemble pages from an ordered sequence of reusable blocks rather than a single fixed schema. Each item in a StreamField represents a block type and its data, allowing mixed content such as headings, paragraphs, images, embeds, and other media on the same page. The field is designed to support complex and varying page layouts while maintaining a consistent editing experience.

Operation: In a Wagtail page model, a StreamField is declared with a set of block definitions, often organized as a StreamBlock. The field stores its content as a serialized list of blocks in the database. In the admin interface, editors can add, remove, and reorder blocks and configure each block’s data. Rendering typically occurs in templates by iterating over the stream and rendering each block accordingly.
