Stomsättning

Stomsättning is a Swedish term that translates to "frame replacement" or "structural replacement" in English. It primarily refers to the process of renovating or rebuilding the load-bearing structure of a building, often a house, while preserving the existing exterior walls and facade. This technique is particularly common in older buildings where the internal wooden frame might have deteriorated due to rot, pests, or general wear and tear over time.

The purpose of stomsättning is to extend the lifespan of a building by addressing its fundamental structural integrity without the need for a complete demolition and reconstruction. It involves carefully dismantling the interior and the roof, exposing the main wooden frame. This frame is then either repaired in sections or entirely replaced with new timber.
